Dust mites can cause allergy and asthma patients to have a hard time. Everyone lives with dust mites. They are microscopic so it is very hard to know just how bad you may have them. The only defense against them is to control them. The best way to control them is to take steps to keep your home as clean and free f dust as possible.
You can not completely get rid of dust mites. They are too small and become embedded in furniture and beds. The only thing you can do is limit their numbers. Dust mites like humid areas. They like to live on fabrics and in fluffy items. They become most irritating when they become air borne and are most harmful to allergy and asthma sufferers. So, in order to cut down on the number of dust mites in your home you should do the following:
- Vacuum all beds and furniture.
- Wash bedding materials, curtains and rugs often in hot water.
- Keep books and stuffed animals to a minimum and dust often.
- Wash any stuffed animals regularly in hot water.
- Dust common dust mite habitats with tannic acid.
- Use furniture, pillow and mattress covers.
- Use fabric minimally in the home.
- Use filters on heat ducts and change them on a regular basis.
- Do not use humidifiers.
- Keep areas prone to humidity and moisture dry.
- Limit lots of air movement in problem areas like bedrooms.
